Are My Bars and Forks Compatible?Updated a month ago

Not all bars and forks are best friends — here’s how to check before buying 🧩

When building or upgrading a stunt scooter, one of the most common compatibility issues is between bars and forks. This mainly comes down to diameter and compression system.

Let’s break it down 👇

🔄 Compatibility Depends On 2 Things:

  1. Bar Diameter (Standard or Oversized)

  2. Compression Type (IHC, HIC, SCS, ICS, ICS10, Mini HIC)

📏 Bar Diameters

TypeOuter DiameterInner DiameterUsually Fits
Standard31.8 mm28 mmIHC, SCS
Oversized34.9 mm32 mmHIC, SCS
Oversized (Alu)34.9 mm28 mmIHC, SCS

🛑 Some bars have slits — and that matters too!

  • Bars with a slit = Not compatible with SCS unless you use a SCS bar adapter or cut the slit off

  • Bars without a slit = Work with SCS, but not with IHC or HIC without adding a slit

🔧 Compression System Matters

Here’s a quick guide to which bars work with which compression system:

CompressionFork Type RequiredBar Type RequiredNotes
IHCIHC forkStandard (w/ slit)Most beginner completes use this
HICHIC forkOversized (w/ slit)Not for aluminum bars
SCSAny SCS forkNo slit (standard or oversized)Requires clamp with SCS
ICS / ICS10Fork with long boltStandard (w/ slit, starnut)Less common today
Mini HICIHC-style forkStandard bar (w/ slit)Rare; similar to IHC

🧠 Pro Tips

  • Aluminum bars are usually standard inner diameter but oversized outer

  • Always double-check the fork’s specs and your clamp's size

  • SCS is the most universal — but requires bars without a slit and a dedicated SCS clamp
