Do Oversized Bars Fit Standard Clamps?Updated a month ago
Oversized bars = more strength. But can they fit a standard clamp? Let’s break it down 🔍🛠️
Oversized bars have a larger outer diameter than standard bars — which affects what clamp you can use. If you try to fit them into a standard clamp, you’ll run into some serious compatibility issues.
But don’t worry — we’ve got workarounds. Here's everything you need to know 👇
📏 What Are Oversized Bars?
Outer Diameter: 34.9 mm
Inner Diameter:
32 mm = Steel (for HIC)
28 mm = Aluminum (for IHC)
💡 Oversized aluminum bars are confusing — they look big outside, but the inside is still standard diameter!
🔧 Standard Clamps (31.8 mm) — Do They Fit?
❌ No. A standard clamp will NOT fit oversized bars out of the box.
But you have 2 options:
✅ Option 1: Use an Oversized Clamp (34.9 mm)
Works with all oversized bars
Most oversized clamps include a shim, which lets you use them with standard bars too
Best choice for flexibility
✅ Option 2: Use a SCS Clamp
SCS clamps are available in both standard and oversized versions
SCS doesn’t use slitted bars, so your oversized bars must have no slit or need a bar adapter
Great option if you want max strength and clean setup
🧠 Summary
Bar Type | Clamp Type Needed | Can Use Shim? |
---|---|---|
Standard (31.8 mm) | Standard or Oversized | Yes |
Oversized (34.9 mm) | Oversized only | No (without shim) |
