Why Is My Brake Squeaking or Rubbing?Updated an hour ago

Got a squeaky or rubbing brake? No worries — it’s super common and easy to fix. Here's how to diagnose and stop the annoying noise so you can get back to smooth riding.

🔍 Common Causes of Brake Squeaking or Rubbing

  • Dust or dirt buildup between the brake and the wheel

  • Misaligned brake rubbing against the wheel

  • Loose brake bolts or vibration

  • Worn-out brake pad causing uneven contact

  • New scooters (yep, sometimes the brake just needs a little break-in)

🛠️ How to Fix It

1. Clean the brake area

Use a clean, dry cloth or a soft brush to remove dirt, dust, or grime from the brake and wheel surface.

2. Tighten the brake bolts

Use an Allen key to check that all brake bolts are secure. Loose parts can cause vibration and noise.

3. Check brake alignment

Spin the rear wheel and look at the brake:

  • If it constantly touches the wheel = realign it slightly

  • If it barely touches but still squeaks = clean it and break it in

You can adjust the brake by loosening the mounting bolts, repositioning it slightly, and tightening back up.

4. Break in the brake

New metal flex brakes or fenders may squeak the first few sessions. Ride it gently for a few hours — this usually solves it!

5. Replace the brake (if needed)

If your brake is very worn down or bent out of shape, it’s time to replace it. You’ll find compatible brakes under our [Spare Parts] section.

🧠 Pro Tips

  • Avoid lubricating the brake or wheel — it can reduce friction and make braking dangerous!

  • Don’t over-tighten your brake bolts — it can bend the deck or cause the brake to sit unevenly.
