Why Is My Clamp Not Holding?Updated 20 hours ago

If your bars keep slipping — even after tightening the clamp — something isn’t quite right. Let’s fix it so your ride stays locked in 🔐🛴

🧲 What Does the Clamp Do?

The clamp holds your handlebars tightly to the fork or compression system. It’s a critical part of your scooter’s stability — especially for tricks and landings.

If your clamp isn’t holding properly, your bars may:

  • Twist during use

  • Feel loose even after tightening

  • Slip when landing or turning

🔍 Step-by-Step Fix Guide

✅ Step 1: Check for the Basics

  • Are the clamp bolts tightened evenly?

  • Are you using the correct clamp size for your bars (standard or oversized)?

  • Are you using a high-quality clamp (2-bolt or 4-bolt)?

💡 If your clamp is too big or small for your bar, it won’t hold no matter how much you tighten it.

🧩 Step 2: Confirm Bar Compatibility

Bar TypeOuter DiameterClamp Required
Standard (Steel)31.8 mmStandard clamp or SCS with shim
Oversized (Alu)34.9 mmOversized clamp or SCS (some universal)

✅ Check your clamp — does it include a shim to fit different bar sizes?

🔧 Step 3: Clamp Tightening Technique

  • Always loosen all bolts slightly before tightening

  • Tighten bolts evenly using an X-pattern (top left > bottom right > top right > bottom left)

  • Use a quality 5 mm or 6 mm Allen key

  • Don’t overtighten — just enough to feel firm and even

⚠️ Stripped or worn threads can also cause clamps to fail. If your bolts spin endlessly, it may be time for a new clamp.

🧼 Step 4: Clean the Contact Area

Sometimes the bar slips because of dirt, grease, or paint.

Do this:

  • Remove bars and clamp

  • Clean inside the clamp and the outside of the bars with rubbing alcohol

  • Dry thoroughly before reinstalling

✅ Clamp Fix Checklist

  •  Clamp is correct size for the bar

  •  Bolts tightened evenly in X-pattern

  •  Clean contact surfaces

  •  Bar has no slit if using SCS

  •  No stripped or damaged bolt threads
