How to Change Wheels and BearingsUpdated 20 hours ago

Wheels feeling worn? Bearings rattling or slowing down? Time for a fresh install 🔄🛞 Let’s get rolling.

Changing wheels and bearings is easier than you think — and makes a big difference in how your scooter rides.

🧰 What You’ll Need

  • New wheels (make sure the diameter and width match your setup)

  • Compatible bearings (usually 608 2RS size)

  • 5 mm or 6 mm Allen keys

  • Bearing press or rubber mallet (optional but helpful)

  • Bearing spacer (goes between the 2 bearings inside the wheel)

🔄 Part 1: Changing Your Wheels

✅ Steps:

  1. Unscrew the axle bolt

    • Use Allen keys on both sides

    • Set aside the axle and spacers

  2. Remove the old wheel

    • Slide it out — you may need to wiggle or gently tap if stuck

  3. Check fork/deck spacers

    • Make sure you have the right size spacers between the fork and the wheel

    • These keep the wheel centered and aligned

  4. Insert new wheel

    • Place spacers back on both sides

    • Insert axle through fork and wheel

  5. Tighten the axle

    • Do not overtighten — spin the wheel to check for smooth rotation

If your new wheels don’t come with bearings, or you want to upgrade:

✅ Steps:

  1. Remove old bearings

    • Use an axle bolt to push from one side

    • Gently tap until bearings pop out

    • Remove the bearing spacer from inside

  2. Clean the wheel core

    • Wipe out dust or old grease

  3. Insert first bearing

    • Press into the wheel using hands or rubber mallet

    • Make sure it’s flush

  4. Insert spacer

    • Position the bearing spacer in the center of the wheel

  5. Insert second bearing

    • Press in firmly — the spacer should stay centered between both bearings

🔧 Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • ❌ Wrong wheel size = won’t fit in fork or deck

  • ❌ Missing spacer = bearings won’t roll smoothly

  • ❌ Over-tightening axle = restricts wheel movement
