How to Install Grips and Grip TapeUpdated 20 hours ago

Fresh grips = better control. Fresh grip tape = better traction. Here’s how to install both like a pro 🛠️🛴

👐 Part 1: Installing Handlebar Grips

Changing your grips improves comfort and control — and can totally change your scooter’s feel. Here’s how to get them on smoothly:

🔧 What You’ll Need:

  • New grips (standard size for stunt scooters)

  • Hair spray, rubbing alcohol, or grip glue

  • Air compressor (optional but super helpful)

  • Patience 😅

✅ Install Steps:

  1. Remove old grips

    • Use a flathead screwdriver or pliers to gently pry them off

    • Spray a little soapy water or alcohol to loosen

  2. Clean the bars

    • Remove any leftover glue or dirt

    • Dry completely

  3. Apply lubricant

    • Spray a little hair spray or rubbing alcohol inside the new grip

    • This helps slide them on, but will dry to create a bond

  4. Slide on the grips

    • Twist and push until fully on

    • If using an air compressor, blow air between grip and bar while pushing

  5. Let dry

    • Wait at least 1–2 hours before riding (overnight is best for grip glue)

  6. Install bar ends

    • Push them into the bar ends (use a mallet if needed)

🦶 Part 2: Installing Grip Tape

Fresh grip tape keeps your feet locked in while riding — it also makes your deck look 🔥

🧰 What You’ll Need:

  • Grip tape (pre-cut or sheet)

  • Box cutter or razor blade

  • File or metal object to score edges

  • Cleaning cloth

✅ Install Steps:

  1. Remove old grip tape

    • Peel slowly — heat with a hairdryer if it's stubborn

  2. Clean the deck

    • Remove glue residue

    • Ensure it's dry and smooth

  3. Apply the new tape

    • Line it up and press down firmly from center out

    • Eliminate air bubbles

  4. Score the edges

    • Use a metal file or screwdriver to trace the edge of the deck

    • This gives a clean cut line

  5. Cut around the edge

    • Carefully slice excess grip tape with a razor blade

    • Smooth rough spots

  6. Optional cutouts or designs

    • Use a blade to create your own shapes or logo reveals

🧠 Pro Tips:

  • Use rubber grips for the best shock absorption

  • Match your grip tape design with your scooter setup

  • Keep grip tape clean for max foot traction
