How to Install SCS, HIC, IHC & ICS CompressionUpdated 20 hours ago
Compression is the system that keeps your scooter tight, smooth, and safe. Installing it right = dialed ride every time 🔩🛴
There are four main types of compression systems used in stunt scooters. The setup process varies depending on what you’ve got. Below is a full guide for each one:
🧱 1. SCS Compression (Standard Compression System)
Before You Start:
Make sure your bars do not have a slit
Use SCS bars or a bar adapter
Install Steps:
Drop the fork into the headtube of the deck
Insert the compression bolt through the top cap and screw it into the fork’s thread
Tighten the compression bolt using a 5 or 6 mm Allen key until headset feels snug (but bar can still rotate)
Slide the SCS clamp over the fork
Insert the bars into the clamp
Align bars with the wheel
Tighten clamp bolts evenly using a criss-cross pattern
💡 Pro Tip: Check for headset play by rocking the scooter back and forth. If it rattles, retighten the compression bolt.
🧩 2. IHC Compression (Internal Hidden Compression)
Before You Start:
Only works with standard diameter bars with a slit
Requires an IHC-compatible fork
Install Steps:
Slide the IHC shim over the fork
Drop fork into deck
Insert and tighten compression bolt through top cap into the fork’s star nut
Slide headset cap on
Insert bars over the fork and shim
Align bars and tighten double clamp bolts
🔩 3. HIC Compression (Hidden Internal Compression)
Before You Start:
Requires oversized steel bars with a slit
Fork must be HIC compatible
Install Steps:
Slide HIC shim over the fork
Drop fork into deck
Insert compression bolt through top cap and into fork
Tighten compression
Slide oversized bars over the shim
Align and tighten clamp
🧷 4. ICS Compression (Inverted Compression System)
Before You Start:
Requires standard bars with a slit
Needs a starnut installed inside the bar
Install Steps:
Insert fork into deck
Slide headset cap on
Insert long compression bolt through bottom of fork
Screw bolt into the starnut inside the bar
Tighten slowly — it compresses the headset upwards
Slide clamp on and tighten around bars and fork
💡 ICS systems are tricky and not common anymore — only follow this if your scooter already uses it.
🔧 Mini HIC?
Mini HIC installs like IHC — just a different shim diameter. Follow the same process as IHC above.
🧠 Troubleshooting Tips:
Rattling headset? Re-tighten the compression bolt
Loose bars? Make sure clamp is tight and bars fit correctly
Bars don’t fit? You may have a mismatch in compression type, fork, or bar diameter
